Abstract: This project aims at correlation studies of nuclear fission. Photo-fission is one of the pillars of the ELI-NP γ-beam research program. Within this project we are going to upgrade the existing experimental equipment for γ-beam experiments by coupling fission-fragment detectors to the 4γ ELIGANT-GN array. In the upper hemisphere of ELIGANT-GN are placed 36 EJ-301 liquid scintillator detectors and 25 6Li-glass detectors and in the lower hemisphere there are 34 large volume LaBr3:Ce and CeBr3detectors which allows simultaneous neutron-γ measurements. The data are processed by the digital DAQ DELILA. By adding fission-fragment detectors, complex fission correlation measurements will become possible. In a first series of measurements, spontaneous fission of 252Cf will be studied. In the experiments, the direction of the fission-fragment will be measured with a position sensitive detector, a DSSD Si or a THGEM detector, which will be correlated to energy and angular measurements of the emitted fission neutrons and γ rays. The fission events will be reconstructed in 3D geometry and energy and angular correlations of the emitted neutrons and γ rays with respect of the direction of the fission fragment will be studied. In a next series of measurements, ELIGANT-GN will be coupled to a Frisch-gridded Bragg ionization chamber (FBIC) with segmeted anode in an attempt to study correlations between neutrons and γ rays as a function of fragment mass and direction.

Objectives: - Spontaneous fission correlation experiments with a 252Cf source at ELI-NP;
- In-beam photo-fission experiments;
- Technical developments on transport technologies and detection of ions;
- Dissemination of results;
- Education and training of young researchers
