Abstract: The tritium content in solid samples can be measured using Total Combustion, Thermal Desorption and Accelerator Mass Spectrometry techniques. For all these methods, specific radioactive standards are needed to determine the detection efficiencies depending on the type of the analysed material and protocols. The purpose of the project proposal is the obtaining of representative batches and validation at laboratory level (TRL IV) of tritium standards sources with application in the fission and future fusion power plants. The targeted materials are stainless steels, used in achieving of nuclear plants. The obtained results will be also used for the characterization of radioactive waste resulting from nuclear activities at national and European level.

Objectives:
a) To elaborate technical specifications in accordance with the requests of the end users (type of metallic matrix, radioactivity domains).
b) To design and build customized facilities necessary in the stages of obtaining and physico-chemical characterization of the standard sources that contain tritium absorbed in the metal matrices.
c) To develop the manufacturing protocols that ensure the traceability of the radioisotope from the primary sources to the final product and perform preliminary tests of obtained representative samples for protocols validation.
d) To validate the new standards, including through intercomparison activities between TC and TD methods.
e) To engage with "end users" to facilitate the take up of the obtained results developed by the project.
